My second book, Upstarts! How GenY Entrepreneurs Are Rocking the World of Business and 8 Ways You Can Profit From Their Success (McGraw-Hill) launches on September 14 but since you can apparently buy it right now on Amazon (hint, hint), I figured we may as well get this conversation started pronto. First of all, in the interest of full disclosure, I am not in my twenties. Or my thirties. Or (gulp) even my forties as of a couple of months ago. I’ve been in the business journalism trenches for more than 20 years, profiled scores of companies, covered dozens of trends, and spent hundreds of hours interviewing entrepreneurs. So I am not a twenty-year-old telling you about all the cool companies my friends are starting, not that there’s a thing wrong that. It’s just not who I am.
I wrote Upstarts! because I believed I had something new and important to tell the world about how and why so many young people are starting companies. I think their businesses provide a window into the future of entrepreneurship for all of us. But the book was just a conversation-starter; here, we’ll continue the dialogue. While I’ll focus a bit on the themes in the book (which you can read about *here*) and provide some updated information on the companies in it, my primary goal is to give you added insight and information that you can use to run your company, whether you’re sixteen or sixty.
